This is welcomed news for designers, developers and companies alike as IE6 is, at this point, is well over 10 years old. It has been named the “least secure software” on the planet so it’s about time Microsoft did something about it.

Microsoft has gone on record saying people may opt out of the update by installing blocking software or not enabling automatic updates. They’ve also stated that users of Windows XP, a version of the operating system that in the past we were told could not be updated, are getting the update rolled out to them too. It’s unclear at this time how that will be possible, but is still a welcome advancement.

So, hooray! IE6 is one step closer to the grave. Tell us how that makes you feel in the comments below!
